Ruitem Forum Panama. The Ibero-American University Network of Territory and Mobility and the University of Panama are organising the XIV International Ruitem Forum in Panama on 16 and 17 July. Over the course of several days, issues related to governance, local development, tourism and the environment will be addressed.
 
The event will be attended by teaching experts and professionals from various universities in the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America, such as Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Portugal and Paraguay.

ZONING FOR THE ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY OF THE COASTAL AND LITTORAL AREA, MARIABE, PROVINCE OF LOS SANTOS, PANAMA

Lecture by Dr. Jaime Rivera of the University of Panama (Sede Veraguas) School of Geography, Department of Physical Geography.

Justification

Environmental zoning generates geospatial information that links the characteristics of the geosystem with the social capital (knowledge of the local community), in order to facilitate decision community), to facilitate decision-making during the elaboration of local (municipal level) land-use plans, according to Law No. 41 of 1 July 1998; Law No. 6 of 1 February 2006; Resolution No. 234 of 16 August 2005 and Resolution No. 234 of 16 August 2005 and February 2006; Resolution No. 234 of 16 August 2005 and Law No. 80 of 31 December 2009.

 Objectives

  • Disciminate between coastal space and coastal space.
  • Determine the degranding geo-ecologial factors.
  • Elaborate sustainability charters and environmental zoning.

WATER RESOURCE MANAGEMENT IN THE PANAMA CANAL, FUTURE RESERVOIRS AND SUSTAINABLE TOURISM

Climate change and the Panama Canal

  • Manage policies, strategies, plans, programmes and initiatives for the environmental management and sustainable development of the Panama Canal watershed.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental standards and procedures, in order to manage, maintain, use and conserve the water resources of the basin and to ensure the least possible impact on the environment during the execution of its operations.
  • Ensure compliance with and maintenance of the Environmental Management System certified under ISO 14001.
  • Develop policies, procedures and programmes for environmental conservation and protection, including environmental impact assessments and studies, environmental education and community relations programmes, environmental economic incentive programmes and programmes for monitoring environmental and social variables in the basin.
  • Strengthen the Inter-Institutional Commission of the Panama Canal Watershed (CICH).

LOCAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT PRESENT AND PERSPECTIVES IN THE DISTRICT OF LOS POZOS

TECHNOLOGY AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT (CUBA)

Presentation by Jose Mª Ameneiros (Cuba) Universidad Tecnológica de La Habana (CUJAE), in charge of International Relations.

General objective of the project:
• Creation of a chair for training and technology transfer through interaction and collaboration in the University-Business sphere.

Specific objective of the project:
• To expand knowledge and capacities in research and education based on innovative practices, promoting business-university interaction through the implementation of joint projects that involve
university through the execution of joint projects involving professionals from both entities, guaranteeing the implementation of the results obtained and the transfer of knowledge generated in the results obtained and the transfer of the knowledge generated in actions aimed at their incorporation into the postgraduate and undergraduate training of professionals linked to the urban water cycle.
